In this project visualisations and random bits from the internet are used as the basis for a creative piece of writing.
These are the sources for the piece:
1) Sense words, words concerning all senses are brainstormed and the importance of appealing to all the senses in writing emphasized.
2) Visualisations:
- Visualising a place. Students close their eyes and are guided by the teacher to a place of their own choice, they pay attention to the sights, sounds, smells and tastes they encounter.
- A person, in the same way they visualize a person. In this visualisation the idea of mood and feeling is invoked.
- An event, this is the freest of the visualisations, we‘ll see what happens!
3) A short piece found online, either by some kind of coincidental method or chosen by the students.
Students then sit down with the material and create a text in English; this could be a poem, a story or any kind of text.
The text should
- appeal to all the senses,
- the vocabulary should be varied and interesting
- the grammar should be correct.
Students start writing in class and finish at home.
Grading will be mostly for enthusiastic particiapation, but also for the quality of the writing and English.
