Short Story Competition 2011 – call for participation

Renata Pesková Emilsson English teacher in Hlíðaskóli is inviting other English teachers to participate in organizing a short story competition for learners at elementary and lower secondary level.

Last year Hlíðaskóli organized a short story competition for the first time.

There were three categories, 5th – 6th grades, 7th – 8th grades and 9th –  10th grades.

We all know how important writing is for studying a foreign language, and creative writing even more so.

The best way to learn how to write a short story is to read many yourself, or to listen to them. That was a part of our English lessons, and will be this school year again.

The youngest ones were allowed to hand in cartoons they created in class with the help of the teacher. The older ones learned at school how to structure a short story and how to organize writing it.

The winners in all three categories received their book awards on the European Day of Languages, the 26th September. This little ceremony took place in the school´s library and the headmaster handed out the English books.”
